Reserve Champion in the 2 yr old trail. and 3rd in ridden hack over 15hh, 2 yr old hunter under saddle, 2 yr old western pleasure classic, 4th in the 2 yr old western pleasure, and 7th in hunter in hand.
Phew!
They competed at the Diamond Futurity show straight after the state show and won the 2 + 3 yr old appaloosa filly class, got 2nd in the 2 yr old all breeds halter futurity, open breeds performance halter mare/ filly, Amateur halter mare/filly, 3rd in open hunter in hand and 5th in the 2 yr old trail.It was a great trip, well worth going,

SPORTALOOSAS AT MURRAY LODDON IN MAY
Young Sportaloosas had great success at the Murray Loddon Regional Appaloosa Club Show in May 2010.
Lewisville did it again, with Champion Appaloosa stallion/colt taken out by LV Lane Frost, with Ann Lewis.
Reserve champion went to the elegant colt Kerrinna Kats Frosty Moon with Karen Fischer. He's now off to his new owner in QLD - all the best with him.

FIRST SPORTALOOSA HIGH ACHIEVER
A huge round of applause and $500 goes to Cayuse Global Warrior and Rebecca McDonald for the highest achievement of Jan - Mar 2010 in open competition.
Rebecca and 'Earl' scored 67% in an open, official dressage test, qualifying them for the state dressage champs in September.

Little Miss Leuwin competed in the inaugural Sportaloosa in hand classes, held at the QLD All Breeds Youngstock Championships and not only did she win the Sportaloosa section, she also won the Warmblood section (she's half WB) and went on to win Supreme Performance Horse.

Pine Row Dat's a Goer (Johnny), ridden by owner Carolyn Kitchener took out Overall Hi Point Performance horse of theTasmanian state championships in fine style with with 8 champions, 1 reserve and grand champion hack.
He won all his hack classes, Hunter in Hand, Hunter Hack, 2nd in the Hunter under saddle, and the fun events at the end of the last day with wins in the Barrel race, and Keyhole race. He also won Hi Point English horse 3 out of 4 years. Phew!

FAREWELL TO AN APPALOOSA CUTTING LEGEND
The grand old man of Appaloosa cutting - Ric O'Lena - went to greener pastures on 27th January 2010 aged 33 years.
An underused sire, he created a stir wherever he competed as a young horse and showed that spotted horses can work a cow with the best of them.
SPORTALOOSAS AVERAGE $6,000 AT NSW SALE
Sportaloosas sold to average $6000 at the Premier Peformance Horse sale Aelec Tamworth run by the NCHA in conjunction with the ABCRA National finals rodeo and campdraft. The crowd was very enthusiastic with the quality and the way they performed under saddle and working cattle... One filly by Ric O'Lena sold to an Australian barrel racing champion!

We're pleased to add the Andalusian, Lusitano and Friesian to our list of acceptable Sportaloosa outcrosses. Note though that grey isn't an acceptable outcross no matter the breed!
SPECIAL NEWS - $2,000 SPORTALOOSA HIGH ACHIEVER AWARD
We're proud to announce the introduction of an extra incentive to compete on a spotted horse in 2010.
The Sportaloosa High Achiever Award has a $2,000 prize pool for 2010 and will be awarded to the registered Sportaloosa who achieves the highest result in any open performance event. There will be one High Achiever in each quarter of 2010 (Jan - Mar, Apr - Jun, Jul - Sept, Oct - Dec), each winning $500 plus a special award for the Highest Achiever of the 4 winners.
The Sportaloosa High Achiever need not be the winner of an event but they will have put in the best performance against all the odds, in tough open competition.
All spotted horses, competing in any discipline can be eligible. The High Achiever Award is open to any horse registered with Sportaloosa International.
Bec McDonald and mount Cayuse Global Warrior came through again at Warringah Dressage Championships. The early test 1.D finished with a 55.9% which was still enough to secure 3rd. The 1.C after a quick gallop to get a better "forward" received a 71.35% and a 1st, to finish the day Reserve Champion Prelim Horse!
Champion went to another Appaloosa Double Jay Ice Dancer with (soon to join Sportaloosa) Mel Gough.

FIRST COMPETITION, FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP!
Congratulations to Ben O'Sullivan and Leane Williams, whose young Sportaloosa stallion Harry Hotspur won his first dressage test on September 13 and took out Champion Pre-Horse.

SPORTALOOSAS ON SHOW AT NSW DRESSAGE CHAMPS
The Sportaloosa-sponsored Elementary 3D test at the NSW Dressage Championships was won by Lauries As (an imported Hanovarian stallion), with 70.5% ridden by Tor Van Den Berge from Qld.
2nd was Dante (also imported by De Niro) 69.3% ridden by Nicole Tough and 3rd was Reverence F 63.8% ridden by Anne Catherine Krups.
The Sportaloosa stand was on show, featuring the all-new Sportaloosa banner (complete with new slogan "Putting the spots back into sport".
There were 3 appaloosa horses competing: Double Jay Ice Dancer a fewspot gelding ridden by Melissa Gough, Colonial Hot and Handsome(solid) ridden by Vanessa Midwinter and Colonial Pure Majic (blanket) ridden by Karen Lever.
WINNER WARRUMBUNGLE ONLINE FOAL SHOW
Cayuse Robin James took out the top spot in the Sportaloosa and Appaloosa sections of this popular annual online foal show. Congratulations to owner Janette Taylor!

In New Zealand: Zippers Dynasty and Lisa Oswald scored 81% for second in prelim dressage at Eastern Bay Dressage Group's Winter Dressage Day.
In Australia: Cayuse Sign Of A Storm won champion prep class at the Namoi Associate Championships and Cayuse A Grand Illusion took out second in his Novice test, both piloted by Samantha McAuliffe.
SAVANNAH STUD DOES IT AGAIN IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY
Savannah Stud has cleaned up at Katherine Show, the second biggest show in the N.T.
Cayuse Mighty Windstorm (right) won 1st Appaloosa Stallion or colt, with his son Savannah Midnight Storm 2nd.
Storm then won Champion Appaloosa Stallion and went on to be judged Reserve Supreme Stallion of the show, while Storm's son won N.T bred colt or stallion.

AWESOME RESULTS FOR SAVANNAH'S SPORTALOOSAS
Valmai Jones of Savannah Stud has to travel 300km just to attend her local show... Tennant Creek and District Show was a raging success for her beautiful Sportaloosa / Appaloosa Sire Cayuse Mighty Windstorm.
Storm won Champion Stallion or Gelding over 14hh, he then took out Grand Champion Stallion or Gelding of the Show, then as if not satified he won best Presented Horse of the Show. Storm's son Savannah Midnight Storm (shown below) won 2nd place Stallion or Gelding 14hh and under.

The spectacular Sportaloosa colt Rocking M I'ma Stormy Q took out Champion Coloured Stallion or Colt at Halter at the recent Mt Isa show as well as Reserve Grand Champion Coloured Exhibit of the show.
This 9 month old colt is by Cayuse Mighty Windstorm and is Storm's first foal to be shown.
BLACK LEOPARD KNABSTRUPPER COLT ARRIVED IN AUSTRALIA!
A stunning black leopard Knabstrupper colt combining the three top bloodlines has made the huge trip from Germany to Cayuse Sportaloosas, NSW.
Sired by Figaro Af Hallundbaek (also the sire of Sheik Af Hallundbaek), his dam is by the highly successful dressage horse Conetti Lynghoj from an own daughter of the world famous Apollon.
These stallions are not only successful at dressage but also at jumping and eventing at high levels.
SPORTALOOSA SUCCESS AT QUEENSLAND STATE APPALOOSA CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
Little Miss Leuwin (Jaybee Leuwin x Eldorado L'il Miss Henry) took out the double at the Queensland State Champs, winning both Suitability for Dressage and Led Hack. She's pictured right with handler Ben O'Sullivan and is owned by Leane Williams.
By Royal Decree (by Cayuse A Grand Illusion) won Reserve Champion Led Hack and placed 4th in Suitability for Dressage.
Cayuse Mighty Outrageous topped it all off by taking out Reserve Champion Novice Dressage and Champion Elementary Dressage, piloted by owner Leane Williams.

Owners of registered Sportaloosas are warmly invited to enter the All Breeds Online Foal Show 2009.
Run by Australia's Warrimbungle Sub Branch APSB, the Online Foal Photo Show is open to Australian and New Zealand entrants and is judged by international and Australian judges.

AP Double Plaudit has made Sportaloosa history by becoming the first Studbook One stallion to enter the Sportaloosa registry.
This handsome 1998 stallion has just one non-spotted horse in the first 4 generations of his pedigree, which features Appaloosa greats such as Prince Plaudit.

SPOTS ON TOP IN NELSON WESTERN PLEASURE FUTURITY
For the first time in the 11 year history of the New Zealand WRF Western Pleasure Futurity, the event has been won by an Appaloosa. Leopard mare Rock 'n' Roll took the top spot ridden by Michael Schmidt from Germany. Rock 'n' Roll is owned by New Zealand's Rock 'n' Wood Ranch. Congratulations on a huge achievement!
EQUITANA REPORT AND WINNER OF SERVICE TO CAYUSE A GRAND ILLUSION
The Aussie Sportaloosa team is home again after their Equitana adventure. They may have lost their voices after talking up a storm but enjoyed meeting everybody!
The
crowds were huge and interest in Sportaloosas was high, from Aussies and Kiwis alike...
The weather was awful except the first day. Torrential rain and hail on the Saturday! On 2 nights Illusion had to go into a stable in the main hall as they thought the roof might blow off the portable stalls at the breeders' village!!
Thanks to everyone who stopped to say hi; we hope you had a great time at Equitana and look forward to seeing you again.
